Zelda, our zebra, loves a chat with zoo visitors. Zebra stripes are unique and help camouflage them and keep safe. There are three types of zebras – Grevy’s, Grant’s and Burchell’s.
Habitat: Grassy plains and semi-deserts of Africa.
Zelda is a Burchell’s zebra which means she has shadow stripes. If you look closely you’ll see there are black stripes and with lighter stripes between. It also means her legs are mostly white as only the Grant’s zebra has stripes all the way down to the hooves. Every zebra has different stripes, just like human finger prints.
Maria has moved to live with Zelda from Hamilton Zoo. They became great friends very quickly.
